2010 Census Cautions
With the U.S. Census process beginning, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) advises people to be cooperative, but cautious, so as not to become a victim of fraud or identity theft. The first phase of the 2010 U.S. Census is under way as workers have begun verifying the addresses of households across the country. Eventually, more than 140,000 U.S. Census workers will count every person in the United States and will gather information about every person living at each address including name, age, gender, race, and other relevant ata.

Mid-year Budget Fixes
The Senate began the process of approving several bills to close the current year budget this week. It is anticipated that on Monday, the Senate will act on the gas tax swap. Actual bill language is still being developed. It appears for the at least the near term, the 3% withholding proposal on independent contractors has been put to the side. It could come back into play in July during the 2010-2011 budget negotiations.

While to some, the recent state sting operation to find such contractors may have seemed like overkill, such efforts may have saved you or people you know and love thousands of dollars for shoddy work, performed by people not qualified in the first place.

President Barack Obama's proposed 2011 budget would boost spending to combat workers safety issues and the protection of workers in the workplace amongst other priorities. These budget consideration will not only increase the federal government’s oversight of labor violations but also put more OSHA inspectors in the field.
