“Serving any board is a significant undertaking, and so is the case with the Builders Exchange Board. But the rewards surpass the challenges,” said John Silva of Allied Painters and past president of the Builders Exchange. “The insight I’ve gained during my tenure, combined with the opportunity to give back to the industry that sustains us, has been a valuable and rewarding experience.”
A sixteen-member elected Board of Directors representing a cross section of the construction industry governs the policies of the Builders Exchange. Board members are elected for a two-year term and may be re-elected for a second two-year term. The Board of Directors meets at least every other month at the Exchange in San Leandro. Eight members of the Board shall be elected in alternate years so that in each election year there shall be a carryover of eight members who continue to serve.
The Builders Exchange values and seeks diverse leadership and seeks leaders from all types and sizes of eligible contractor members and companies.
There are many benefits of serving as a volunteer leader, including playing a significant role in advancing the contracting profession; having an opportunity to enhance the value of the Builders Exchange and the community; accessing up-to-date information about the challenges facing the construction industry and exchanging ideas and perspectives with other volunteer leaders.
