The Builders Exchange and the construction industry lost one of its true benefactors recently, Anthony (Tony) Silva, Owner of Allied Painters, Inc., who died February 10, 2011.  Tony passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer.

Tony’s support has been an instrumental part of the Exchange’s success and growth as Tony and Allied Painters have served the Builders Exchange in so many capacities – Board of Directors – Committees – Events – Strategic Plans – that are too numerous to mention.  Allied Painters has been a member of the Builders Exchange of Alameda County for more than 43 years.

Tony was born in Oakland, California.  He joined the Navy when he was 18 and served proudly in World War II.  He enjoyed a 55-year career in the painting industry owning Allied Painters in Oakland for 50 years.

He served as President for the industry association - Painting and Decorating Contractors Association.  He was an active member of Our Lady of Grace Church serving as usher, Eucharistic minister and Parish Fall Festival volunteer.  Tony is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Patricia, devoted children, John (Jennifer) of Pleasanton, Dawn Allen (James) of Pleasant Hill, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Tony for many years regularly visited the Builders Exchange plan room and a more positive temperament you could not find.  He always had a kind word to say and was the consummate gentleman. We do not recall Tony missing our Annual Holiday Open House all these years except our most recent event last December.

Tony was a great friend to the construction industry and his generous and loving spirit will be missed by all.

Memorial donations can be made to St. Vincent Dining Room 675-23rd St., Oakland, CA, or Our Lady of Grace School, 3433 Somerset Avenue, Castro Valley.
