When you get that license number it will always be special to you. Especially, if it’s a legacy. Fire and other disaster work is drawing interest from over the border. Who can  come here to help? Our last contractor learns one day does make a difference…

Q: My Dad has an “A” (General Engineering), “B” (General Building), and “C-61” (Specialty) license as a Sole Proprietor. I was wondering if there was a way to transfer his license number to me with the new corporation I am setting up. I had a previous “A” license, but I really want to get away from doing highway work. We only do residential work now. However, that being said, I don’t want to lose my qualification. I would like to transfer his “B” and “C-61” license to my license with me Qualifying the “A” portion. His license starts with a “3” so it’s sentimental to him (and me). Can you help?

A: We can absolutely help with that process and I completely understand the sentimental part of a license number, that’s definitely a low number! Your Dad would need to own at least 51% of your new corporation in order to transfer the license number. You can always update the ownership once the number is transferred. You would need to apply for a “new” license with two Qualifiers, you with the “A” and your Dad with the “B” and “C-61”. Let me know if you would like our assistance with the process!

Q: We have been contacted to do some of the LA fire re-construction. What type of license is required for this work? We have an AZ contractor’s license.

A: It depends on what type of work you are doing for the re-construction. If you are doing the site preparation for the potential building, you may need the “A” license with the HAZ certification. The CSLB has been very particular about the contractors who are coming out to do the re-construction. Give me a call and I can look up your AZ contractor’s license and see if your Qualifier will be able to obtain a Waiver of the Trade exam in CA.

Q: We have an employee whose license expired five years ago, to the day. We need to replace our current Qualifying Individual and were wondering if the employee would be able to replace our retiring person quickly and without taking any exams.

A: Thank you for contacting me! If the employee’s license expired more than five years ago, even if it’s only one day, he/she would be required to re-test. If the individual has worked for your company for over five years, he/she would be able to request a Waiver of the exams. Give me a call to discuss this!
