Oakland businesses must be prepared for the implementation of Oakland's new minimum wage law, approved by voters in November 2014.

The following is a check list of what employers need to do on or before March 2:

  • Adjust hourly wage for employees earning less than $12.25 per hour.
  • Update sick leave, vacation and paid time off policies to ensure that policies comply with the new law.
  • Prepare and distribute notices to employees of the new minimum wage, sick leave and hospitality service charge laws.
  • Notices must be in languages spoken by more than 10 percent of employees.
  • Notices must be posted prominently in areas where they will be seen by all employees.
