From Stephanie DeHerrera, Organizing Director, Oakland Builders Alliance

The Oakland building community can celebrate a victory this week as the Oakland Builders Alliance’s initiative to extend existing entitlements to December 31, 2012 was approved by the Oakland City Council Tuesday night.

The Oakland Builders Alliance met with Council Members and representatives of CEDA (Community and Economic Development Agency ) to move forward initiatives that will not only generate revenue and jobs in Oakland, but also avenues of success for the building community. This is one off the list!

A copy of the resolution approved Tuesday by all present Council Members,  along with a list of major projects eligible for the extension, can be viewed here.  Please review it and take advantage of this insightful ordinance, as extensions are not granted to expired entitlements. To qualify for an extension, owners or representatives of entitled projects must request, in writing, an extension from the Planning Department.

Thank you to all the Council Members that saw the benefit in this policy and especially to Council Member De La Fuente, Council Member Brunner and their offices for bringing this to the Council's attention and to Council President Reid for facilitating our continuous discussions with CEDA regarding the remaining initiatives.

The OBA continues to be the voice of advocacy for the building community of Oakland. But we can’t do it without your support. Please consider membership today, and you can join our OBA Membership Drive or call OBA directly for more information at 510-735-8849.
