Employers - A few recent changes, in case you missed it: 

  • ­Sick Leave must be given to employees starting July 1, 2015. They earn 1 hour sick time for every 30 hours worked. See inside for the wording you should already have posted. Time can be taken for a variety of reasons. Large risk exposure if the employer prohibits the time requested. It's a complex regulation; your best bet is to use the Dept. of Industrial Relations (DIR) website for your info. And an employment attorney. www.dir.ca.gov/DLSE/ab1522.html (AB 1522, 2014)
     
  • ­Prevailing wages. Construction clean-up work at a public works jobsite is considered part of the project and workers must be paid prevailing wage rates. (AB 26, 2014)
     
  • ­Have you ever been convicted of a crime? Contractors bidding State construction contracts are not allowed to ask an applicant this question when he/she is initially applying for a job. (AB 1650, 2014).
