  • More than 70% of substance abusers hold jobs
  • One in four workers between the ages of 18 and 34 used drugs in the past year; and
  • One worker in three knows where to purchase drugs in the workplace
  • The American Council for Drug Education states that Americans consume 60% of the world's production of illegal drugs: 23 million use marijuana at least four times a week; 6 million use cocaine; and 2 million use heroin. That's in addition to the 18 million that abuse alcohol.

 What does that mean for the employer? It's unfortunate, but drug and alcohol related issues increase the risk of accidents, lower productivity, raise insurance costs, and reduce profits. The can damage your company image, and may also jeopardize your product quality and company competitiveness.  Employees abusing drug and/or alcohol are 10 times more likely to miss work, 5 times more likely to cause on-the-job accidents, 5 times more likely to file a workers' compensation claim and 33% less productive. They are also responsible for 40% of all industrial fatalities.
