In April, President Obama signed another COBRA extension into law, continuing the 65 percent subsidy extension to help the millions of Americans who have lost their jobs. The latest extension provides the subsidy to those who are involuntarily terminated from employment through May 31, 2010, and the premium reduction lasts for up to 15 months.

The Department of Labor’s Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) has posted information on the new extension. Assistant Secretary of Labor Phyllis C. Borzi issued a statement explaining, “The new law also provides retroactive eligibility for individuals who lost their jobs after the prior COBRA subsidy expired on March 31, 2010.”

The EBSA has also posted new COBRA model notices, an updated fact sheet, and a link to the continuing extension act of 2010.
