A MESSAGE FROM MAYOR SCHAAF

Dear Business and Philanthropic Partners:

I am pleased to announce that we have officially launched our "Classrooms2Careers" program. We are currently preparing youth throughout the city to participate in this program and our goal is to place our teenage youth in meaningful, quality employment opportunities in and around Oakland for 100 hours of work beginning July 6, 2015.

Classrooms2Career is based on the Earn & Learn model; a national initiative that prepares students for successful careers by combining career focused academic curriculum and relevant work experience. The City is currently conducting an aggressive outreach effort to students around the city who to get them ready for the 2015 summer opportunity.

Students participating in the Classrooms2Careers program will have the opportunity to experience a professional work environment, earn money, build quality employment experiences and receive on-the-job training that will add to their skill set as self- supporting adults. Meanwhile, participating employers will gain the edge they need to find a queue of well-trained qualified job candidates as well as connect and inspire Oakland youth with the priceless professional insight only you can provide.

This is a transitional year for the program. This summer we are partnering with the Oakland Housing Authority, Oakland City Department and a growing number of local businesses to create an engaging, high-quality summer internship program which will ultimately be able to serve Oakland youth on a year-round basis.

Join Us!

Your company can participate in any of the following ways:

  • Donate a livable wage stipend of $2000.00 which will cover the 6 weeks wages per youth and the supportive services

  • Provide actual job training and job opportunities for a committed number of our youth with your company

  •  Provide a City subsidized placement for a young person at your business

If you would like to host an intern this summer - please fill out the general intake form  HERE

Please make a contribution to Classrooms2Careers today by contacting Jacqueline Noguera - Program Coordinator at 510-238-6457 or via email at jnoguera@oaklandnet.com.

Warmly,

Libby Schaaf
