Getting an ‘abatement’ class can be abominable! A contractor is hoping to put the ‘horse before the cart’ in NV, while a CA contractor is just looking for some extension. Finally, I can help a contractor whose name is an issue with the Board rules…
Q: We are interested in adding the Asbestos Abatement classification (“C-22”) to our license. What are the requirements to accomplish this?
A: There are many requirements for obtaining a “C-22” classification. In addition to four years of experience in the trade and passing the required exam, the company must show proof they’ve been registered with DOSH for four years. The Qualifier is required to submit four years of AHERA Contractor Supervisor Refresher course certificates and is also required to show proof he/she was listed on the employee roster for the company performing asbestos abatement work for the four years corresponding with the DOSH registrations. It’s a lot!
Q: We need to obtain our NV license as soon as possible. We are just waiting for the financial statement to be completed by our CPA so we can submit the application. Is there any way I can take the test while we are waiting for the financial statement?
A: The NV application must be officially approved by the NSCB before they will give the green light for the Qualifier to take the exam. The application will not be approved prior to receiving an acceptable financial statement.
Q: I just received a letter from the CSLB notifying me of my Responsible Managing Officer’s (RMO) disassociation from my license. I have until May to replace him, but I haven’t identified anyone just yet. I read where you can request an extension on the initial 90-day window. How do I go about doing that until I designate a new RMO?
A: The CSLB will not approve an extension until you have an application in process with them to replace your former RMO.
Q: We received a citation from the CSLB for the business name on our trucks not matching the business name on the contractor’s license. The name on our trucks is the dba name we have registered with the County. I tried to call the CSLB to explain this but have not been able to reach anyone. Can you help me understand and hopefully fix this issue?
A: It’s not enough to have your ‘dba’ registered with the County. It needs to be listed on your contractor’s license as well. You should still pay the citation, I don’t believe there is any way to fight that. However, at the same time you should file a name change application with the CSLB to add the ‘dba’ to your business name. Let me know when you need any assistance.
